Director of UX / Boston

The Director of User Experience is a key leader within the organization, responsible for building, managing, and mentoring information architecture, interaction design, and user research. Working in close collaboration with strategy, creative, and technology teams. This position will contribute high-level architecture and interaction thought leadership, while driving continuous tactical improvements of product craftsmanship and process.

The Director of User Experience will be the UX contact for clients and third-party contractors, provide department guidance in project planning and estimation. The Director of User Experience will find creative ways to articulate the design thinking and logic behind all solutions architecture both internally and in front of clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an authoritative style guide and lead a distributed interaction team
  • Deliver a portfolio of consistent user experiences across devices, geographies, and brands
  • Manages Information Architects and User Experience team members
  • Collaborates with project teams to define strategy, site architecture and navigation, map out user flow and experience, and define high-level interaction
  • Defines metrics for assessing success
  • Acts as consumer advocate
  • Leads User Experience group recruitment process and hiring decisions
  • Works with clients to understand their business models and goals and leads the process of defining business requirements, content, and features
  • Participates in and/or leads consulting engagements
  • Leads User Experience portions of projects - from brainstorming and conception to architecture and training.
  • Conducts multiple methods of primary and secondary research including interviews with key stakeholders, observation, surveys, market research, Web analytics, etc.
  • Analyzes customer segments and their information and functional needs in order to create personas
  • Researches and analyzes industry trends and competitive information
  • Collaborates with project teams to define strategy, site architecture and navigation, map out user flow and experience, and define high-level interaction.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for technology and design, and the drive to stay on top of industry trends and best practices as exhibited through 10+ years of progressively more responsible experiences, 3+Yrs leading UX teams
  • Persuasive communicator - able to explain complex or intangible concepts to stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience leading user research and brainstorming and discovery sessions
  • Ability to perform interface design critiques and supply objective feedback to designers 
  • Excellent critical thinking and analysis skills 
  • Experience managing, training and mentoring others in UX design methodologies and best practices.

 

Candidates must be able to provide a portfolio or work samples showcasing UX prowess, creativity, and depth of thought coupled with fluency in best practices for Interaction Design, Visual Design and Front End Development.

You'll research, strategize, and conceptualize alongside the Director of Brand Planning and the brilliant, burgeoning planning team.

As Senior Planner, you will be a key strategic voice inside the agency and with our clients. You'll champion strategy inside and outside the agency, contribute to thought leadership for the agency, keep our clients relevant and play an important leadership role.

What You'll Do:

  • Represent the consumer inside the agency – be their voice, understand their fears, know their triggers and evaluate the creative work from their perspective
  • Uncover business, brand, audience, competitive and cultural insights that fuel powerful brand ideas and communication strategies
  • Evaluate primary and secondary research data in search of why people do what they do
  • Push for the development of brand ideas and communication strategies that are fluid and able to cross the right channels online and off
  • Collaborate with channel partners to bring fresh connection ideas for the brand

What You'll Need:

  • 6+ years strategic planning experience at top brand agencies or marketing-driven communications agencies
  • Demonstrable experience and impact in developing integrated marketing campaigns
  • In-depth knowledge of integrated marketing (including primary research, segmentation, targeting)
  • Experience managing multiple strategic projects across multiple teams (cross functional teams including creative, account management, analytics teams)
  • Understanding of industry/market intelligence and knowledge of best practices
  • Ability to understand and define consumer insights, business and marketing challenges
  • Knowledgeable about classic market research methodologies (qual and quant) as well as newer forms of insight mining such as social media listening
  • Ability to propose, design, analyze and interpret both qualitative and quantitative research
